doe anyone have any pics of the saloon bars, expecially a close of of how they fit into the roof? I have a feel we could get some made up for a lot less than the prices i've seen. they may be as lovely to look at but might solve the problem.

The bars do not fit like in yester year when cars had lip gutters to clamp to they clamp around the door frame and use tension to hold them on the roof How are you planning on getting these made up bars E approved ? Do you know anybody with facilities to test the weight loading on the roof so the bars do not damage the car ? I have seen the damage that "home made" roof bars can do when they fail and believe me its not pretty (to the car and the car behind) !! Just be aware that you are responsible for anything you carry on the roof and im sure that your insurance company will drop you the moment they find out that you are using non certified bars. For the cost of some OE bars or Thule ones it really is not worth the risk. |

i got a bargain last week, oem saloon roof bars used only twice for £30 with all fittings.
Keys still have the originals MGR tag on and the instructions were still in the plastic bag. Basically the keys release a section at both ends of each bar which then allows access to the bolt which screws down into the section on the roof having first removed the plastic plugs, the end sections are then locked back in place for security. The feet on the bars will not damage your paintwork either

The Oem Bars are a great fit. and very solid....
My only worry, is repeated fitment, but in use they are great... I missed out on 3-4 sets in a week on ebay for 50-60 notes due to work so ended up paying over the odds on a pir really, but they were brand new with 4 keys etc from aewilcox ebay and they just do the job 3 sets of thule 591's and jobs a good'un for the bikes.... |
