Thanks guys. Good of you to pick up and run with me on this!

I was told a while back that mk1 & mk2 are different, if they are the same I will go and get one from the local scrapyard. There are 5 mk1's local to me, I presume 1 of them will be working, or at least serviceable.

Thanks for the ebay find, but if I can get away without spending £60 it would be great.

I'm off to the scrapyard to measure up now...

Andy - thanks so much for the offer, really appreciate it, but I have a few mk1's in scrapyards near to me... I'm off to measure one up to see if it'll fit. There are 5 local to me, so I presume one of them should be ok!

Thanks again.

Looking at Rimmers, there does not seem to be any difference with dates.

Phew - half way there now...

Nice early diesel mk1, I took the chrome plinth off and the number plate housing looked pristine. Took it off very, very carefully and plugged it into my car... It worked!

Talking to the guy at the scrap yard, asking him what he would recommend to fit it, he said leave the old foam sticky stuff on as it then won't disrupt the circuit, and he smeared a load of black water proof sealant on for me, then I fitted it.

I then offered the spoiler up to it... and...

It doesn't fit!! But, it looks relatively easy to modify it. It seems that I just need to cut the corners from the grey plastic, and it should slot in.

Pause for a bacon sandwich & a pack of scampi & lemon nic nacs...

Nearly there, thanks so much for your help folks

Would it be worth me siliconing around the outside of the grey plastic board to be doubly sure that no water will get in?

There is a thin layer of foam on the spoiler, but I don't have any to replace it with, so I'm keen to protect the grey but where I can...

Had similar issues with my number plate lights,

Just a mention

The little clear plastic lenses are NLA from Rimmers as are the gaskets that sit behind lens, handy to have a few spares
