Coolant leak - re-filled and no leaks since?
Just after some ideas of what the problem could be or reassurance!
Noticed the other day that I had three large wet patches under the car which I believe to be Coolant (took about 3/4 days to dry out), expansion tank appeared empty have since refilled it as per Haynes manual and it is holding at maximum and no leaks since, have used the car for a number of short trips and the levels appear to be ok, no need for a top up. I need to use the car this weekend and will be doing about 250 miles do you think its safe to use? forgot to add - I couldn't find the leak anywhere after inspecting the engine and all clips and hoses look good. Possibly an air lock in the cooling system causing coolant to be ejected from the expansion cap? Refilling and bleeding would have resolved the issue.. Are there any signs of where the coolant could have leaked from? Pink/blue/white deposites around connections/pipework/expansion tank?
Could be a leaky inlet manifold gasket? |

Hi.
Check in the "V" of the engine for coolant, its easier if you remove the acoustic damping cover over the manifolds. Coolant in this area points to a cracked thermostat or leaking "O" rings. If so I wouldn't risk a long journey.

The engine does sound like its tapping (only noticeable with the bonnet up) but I understand that isn't unusual. |

Could it be from the air-con?
Puzzled the heck out of me at first.

Those aircon drains can put out a respectable amount of condensation & can look a bit un-nerving if you don't know about them.

True, Sierras used to look as if the radiators had burst their A/C put out so much water, but the header tank needed topped up so it must have gone somewhere!

Have you checked your plenum drains? A full plenum of rainwater slowly draining could possibly give a similar effect - I.e. puddles under the car taking time to dry out (cause they are constantly being added to).
If you don't know about the plenum drain then check out the sticky: http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...t=plenum+drain

Thread moved to a more appropriate forum. Re-direct left in old. This may be the better forum as threads get ‘lost’ very quickly in the General Forum.
