It's what happens when folks stick all their eggs in one basket.

Thankfully the summer is ahead so hopefully the effects should be less. Having said that we had the heating on last night.

Hi, russia can threaten to, and actually to cut of gas supplies. That can be dealt with by European countries. It will be counter productive for the Russian economy. What is starting to alarm me is the use of the ‘n’ threat. This is serious and we need to take it seriously. As a country we need to prepare for a nuclear war. Has anyone any idea of our early warning system and what we should do when presumably the sirens go off? The more Russia looks as if it’s going to loose the war, the more likely hood of a nuclear launch against us. Liz Truss has just said that Russia should be kicked out of the whole of Ukraine, including those parts annexed in 2014.

I remember well living through the Cuban middle crisis tense few days when we thought there would be a nuclear war. I also remember as a teenager reading Neville Shute’s ‘on the beach’. Our politicians need to prepare us for the worst case scenario.

Used to go round and test the air raid sirens in the late 70s early 80s in and around Wolverhampton.

We're well prepared for a nuclear war, there's a Vanguard class SSBN permanently at sea. Ti's all we need.

In the 60’s did we not have civil defence and some information about what to do in a nuclear emergency? I don’t think we should be complacent about this escalating situation.

We should be reassured that, so far as we know, any serious move to an actual N threat is fatuous. It is without doubt Mutually Assured Destruction. The acronym says all. The current madman in charge is already being stalked by some of his fellow politicians who are, just possibly, a wee bit more level headed. Hopefully.

Even in the days of Civil Defence (1960's) it was accepted two weeks was the time line for complete disaster. CD was accepted at best as" a rearrangement of the steamer chairs on the Titanic" It was hoped the underground Regional Seats of Government maybe/could be manned if there was a lead in time of a few days. At least 90% of the population would be dead or as good as with no recovery within 90days The survivors ie RSG people would have been hard pressed to find anybody to organise in any way. So Im with the MAD people and hope it works. Chris.S. PS If Putin targeted one or two cities, say Manchester, Glasgow the chaos would be uncontrollable.

Ere you go folks:

I'm sure living in a radioactive wasteland bereft of any semblance of a normal society will be fine.

Might have trouble getting the weekly shop in, a doctor's appointment or, really worrying, parts for the cars.

I'll take my chances standing outside with my arm around my wife.

Better to burn out than fade away.

Boom.

You're spot on with the methodology of nuclear war.

Four "devices" were considered to be the maximum needed to knock-out the UK. That is why we should have asked the USA to include us in "Starwars" anti-missile program. Any programme we do is always cancelled so chipping into the project a few billion a year would have been much more cost effective and above all provide a chance of survival.
