UPDATE - Cause found...
I seem to have found the cause for my laptop crashing. I forgot to plug in the WiFi dongle the other day and its run perfectly since then! No freezing, or "FAT32" messages, and it now plays DVDs happily without crashing.
So the WiFi dongle gubbins must be the issue. They are made by RaLink, and the is the second time I've had problems with thier stuff - it didn't work well on my PC either. Trouble is, I now can't go on online... Anyone recommend a good WiFi dongle setup that will work with XP? |

I used a Netgear PCMCIA card which worked very well. I think I still have it going spare if you're interested.

On the side of your laptop there should be a PC Card slot about 6mm x 60mm which is known as PCMCIA. It's basically just an interface slot in the same way USB is. The Netgear card plugs in and has built in WiFi. It comes with an installation CD. If you PM me your address I'll send it to you. Otherwise you'll find loads on eBay if you search 'netgear wifi card'
