PC Monitor info needed please. .:)
I wanted a bigger monitor, so I saw a what looked like a nice one online and bought it... :xmas-smiley-004:. But... Whilst it is wider than my prev one, it is virtually the same height so the photos on screen are the same as my old one!! Wahhhh .. Do'hhhh..
I need-want a 27 inch non wide screen monitor for displaying-messing with photos.. But do not understand all the TN etc stuff.. hence my call for Help-advice.. :elvis: Price wise, I am hoping to get one for under £300 ... *fingers crossed*.. Fortunately a friend wants to buy my existing monitor (a Viewsonic 2450wm-LED) for £120 so I wont lose out completely.. Can anyone recommend a monitor to suit my requirements please??? ... |

TN, IPS etc are the type of panel (display itself) used on the screen.
TN is the cheapest and most common - but it's not very good. Suffers from backlight bleed, and can't reproduce colours that well (i.e. colour x in two parts of the screen will look different to each other!). However, they've come on a long way and for most people (me included) are fine. Why do you want a NON widescreen? You'll never find a 4:3 27"... What resolution do you want? You say "virtually the same height", but your screen was 1920*1080. Your not going to get a decent 27" for <£300 - all you'll find at the 1920*1200 27" Hanns-G's etc which aren't really a step up. For a good panel + good resolution (2560*1440), this is really really good value... but probably more than you want to spend. |

Hi Jakg. Why 4x3? mainly because when I bought this monitor, whilst it is wider than my old one, it is not taller, so effectively the blimmen pics come up the same size as on the old one but with wider black strips down both sides!! grrrr... lol... :elvis:
I want to view the photos LARGER innit... Colour wise I am pretty colour blind so don't care except many other people will see the pics and for that reason they do need to be pretty good... Oh just complicate things, it would be nice if the monitor could rotate for Portait... .......... EDIT.. Thank you Paul.. (Pab) ... Last edited by James.uk; 14th December 2011 at 16:45.. |

TBH you have no real "special" reason for 4:3 then... 4:3 has been ditched (annoyingly, so has 16:10 nearly) so you might as well go large

Not to complicate things further but you should post the name of your Graphics Card also, as you can buy as big a monitor as you like, but if the card doesnt support a higher resolution than 1920x1080 then its pointless.

Graphics card is an.. ASUS EAH4350 silent. 1GIG gaming.
OS WinXP pro SP3.... m/b is quad core. ? ... C/ is 350 GIG + internal D? 500 GIG + external backup USB drive of 500 GIG If it's any help the PC runs Flight simX with upgraded UK graphics OK.. And easily handles the images from my camera, ave size of which is around 7MB each. As far as I can see, the onscreen portrait image size is being limited by the screen height.. Landscapes, if cropped top and bottom making them Widescreen, are super... Hiya Poppy.. thanks for the link, but I am already using Viewsonics latest 3D screen but it's no help coz it just hasn't got a tall enough screen. Width is fine. Oh and I don't use my PC for gaming, just videos and images.. ... Last edited by James.uk; 14th December 2011 at 18:56.. |
