Computer help please
My computer won't turn on? When i plug it in, the led flashes once, then nothing. The fan pulses once, then nothing. Changed fuse,tried another power lead, changed the CR2032 battery, same happens is it dead? It's about 8 years old, emachines E4028 desktop if that helps. Thanks fellas

The symptoms sound like a failed PSU.
Worth checking the switch first though.

Very hard to diagnose remotely. The biggest failure of PCs is the power supply, but it could be anything. Remove and re-seat any cards or memory thats inside, unplug the large power supply socket on the motherboard check for burning of the connectors also check the heatsink and fan is secure on the processor.

Could be the power supply, could be the motherboard. Easiest thing to do would be to swap with a known good power supply, I might have a suitable one in the loft.

I swapped the power cable with the one off my tv,just the same I'll have a look inside for any burning etc, having said that, haven't a clue what I'm looking at

Power supply is the box the power lead plugs into. You can open the tower up and replace them quite easily.
I just checked the loft - no spares sadly |

Pulled and refitted all plugs, vacuumed & cleaned as much as I could, still the same if you wouldn't mind Chris
