I'm still very pleased with my 2.5 KV6 even with the auto box.
It's perfectly true that she's more reactive after 3200 revs, but that'll do for me. Put it in sport mode and that's better. Now I'm even playing with the 4-3-2 positions: very helpful in the uphills & downhills and even to brake far more efficiently when arriving at a roundabout provided you're not closely followed by a bird minded foolhardy stop lights being off as a consequence. Both my VIS motors were swapped less than 2 years ago for new ones. I think that a remap on the KV6 would do good in two directions: enhancing the advance & improving mpg. Steve Abbott - Saws Tuning - 3 years ago has made a fantastic job on my modest 25 1.4 4 cyl. and I'm gobsmacked, as if I had a ZR or a 25 1.6, so much so that I can't recognize the engine!

Hi:
I have 3 Rovers all of them KV6 2.5 litters 2 are auto y manual. My humble recommendation: Check that the Intake Manifolds butterflies are connected to the "bar" that is controlled by the vis motors. My tourer was affected with both problems, an incredible rattle sound from the butterflies and unsoldered connector internally on the VIS. After the change of the intake manifold for a new one, and resoldering the inside connections on the VIS motors the change in performance and economy was immediate. Including my smile Kind regards Joel Antonio PS, Manual KV6 purrs more aggressive than auto box.

It would appear the remap on the KV6 was carried out on a car that had had a Cat removal and all the insides of the inlet manifold removed ??

I don't know if yours has leads on the front 3 plugs (early models) but mine has been transformed since I freed the flap on the VIS and changed the front leads and spark plugs. There was a factory bulletin about lead to plug cap connections deteriorating causing the spark to have to jump the gaps. The plugs on the front bank were eroded quite badly 2mm instead of 1mm . I also fitted the throttle/ fuel injector repair kit
My car has only done 50k but well worth the effort.

I'm on the fence with regards to results (apart from potentially getting rid of the 'death rattle' of course) & prefer to keep mine as standard. |

I assume that if without VIS motors the car would have been more responsive and more efficient in petrol consumption why on earth fancying such a tricky device from the Rover engineer team ?

He had his 160 with a complete and WORKING vis set up running at 181 IIRC He commented that changing the inlet manifold for one that had been stripped out gave a less smooth curve and a less enjoyable driving experience. To be fair others have said they noticed and increase in performance with everything removed but no figures were produced at the time and as you will appreciate each car will have its own quirks. My thought are if you drive flat out everywhere then the Vis set up is of no use to you otherwise it is. Everyone has an opinion on them though
