Default Just a word of warning

I have just had an unsolicited phone call from a man with a very strong asian accent on a line that was possibly long distance informing me that I had problems with my computer and that he needed to give me some instuction to load a programme that would clear these problems for me. He called me by name and obviously had my telephone number (not hard to find) and claimed to be from a world wide company called PC Hub..
I'm almost certain that this was an attempt to access online infomation so please be warned if you receive a call of this nature not to give any info or enter anything onto your computer.

PS I have run a seach for PC hub and it a computer spares company

Ian

My better half had a similar call the other day. This guy phoned and asked for me (I was at work at the time) Better half said I was at work but this guy said there were reports of us having problems with viruses on our computer, then he asked if we have a computer. Better half said to him "you just said he had reports of us having problems on our computer so why ask if we have one?" This guy went quiet and better half hung up. We've had no further calls. Be carefull out there members.

I love getting these calls - and marketing calls in general.

I enjoy winding them up so much.

How to really annoy them and waste their time, is to answer everything they say/ask with "Yes". They soon get fed up & hang up. Or I say my PC runs Linux - can they still help? Another one I pull is to say that the person they are trying to contact has moved & give them a forwarding number. I usually give them the number for Doncaster Rovers FC.

Another one I do is to ask them to wait while I finish what I was doing, and stick an 'educational' video on the PC If you get my drift!

Annoying calls like this or pushy sales calls I often express how very interested I am, tell them I'll just grab a pen, then put the phone in another room whilst I carry on with what I was doing.........

This scam (or one like it) has been running for some time.

I didn't know at the time, but SWMBO also received one of these calls a few weeks ago. She mentioned it at the time, but I didn't really take much notice. Your posting reminded me, so I enquired again - and yes, the start of the same scam. She says the caller sounded to be Chinese.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

I have a very loud whistle I used to use for refereeing.

Perhaps I should take the phone in the garden and give it a blast if they call me.........

A Pot Noodle horn usually does the trick!

(Plastic promotional 'trumpet' horn, VERY LOUD)
