Mine looked the same when a few weeks back when i removed the wheels to clean them, i ended up changing the whole subframe with upper arms, lower arms, and drop links as an whole unit.
1 The more you poked the worst it got. 2 But the under side was solid so that is why a lot get passed in the MOT. 3 I should imagine quite a few cars are running about with the inner cup section rusted out. 4
