Then he praised the handling saying that somehow the engineers with little more than a socket set from halfords had managed to make the car handle like nothing else on earth.. I remember the Topgear feature well.. Even with the usual mocking Topgear front, Clarkson couldn't fail to be impressed with what MG had achieved with very little.. |

I still yearn for those type of cars especially the Honda's which I have owned, sadly they are no more.
Unfortunately many people can't afford to run a V8 not as a practical runabout on a daily basis. My late father had Jaguar's as his daily car and when he retired to Spain bought himself a 1993 500SL Mercedes because he preferred it to the more modern ones. It was very quick and not restricted to 155mph. I have been lucky in that I had a Father who loved cars and knew how to maintain them however as to whether I actually do purchase a V8 myself is another matter as I have a hankering to go after another marque which is German but ridiculously fast. It was a promise I made to myself and to the Charge Nurse when I was in Intensive Care in May that if I recovered I would buy my dream car and that is a 911 Porsche. It will take me a year or so to raise the funds as I won't buy on the tick.

Couldn't have put it better myself Pete
Anyone seriously thinking about buying one of these, needs to have a strong left leg, as the clutch is heavier than the worst diesel, and should try some slow speed manoeuvres, such as three point turns preferably in damp conditions, and drive the car at 30MPH and try keeping the throttle light and on the overrun so they can experience the true delight of the slop in the diff They are not a patch on the FWD models in terms of refinement, nor are they particularly reliable.........they do have a certain crude charm as most lazy V8 engined cars do, but not enough to persuade me to like them. Still, everyone can make up their own minds, V8 owners can claim a type of exclusivity, but there are rarer and nicer cars to be had for the sort of sums we are talking about here Brian |

If you want an easy to maintain, and repair, lightweight engine which performs equally as well if not better than any other engine in the range then surely the 1.8T is surely the one to go for.
