Easy to work on, well mine is. Mine talks to the T4 all the time, when required. Any car that has Monogram paint will be expensive.

You have to take into consideration that only 883 cars were produced. In April 2014 it was thought that only 400 cars were still around worldwide.

A car is worth what someone will pay for it. I love my 260, use it all year round. Irrespective of the colour the rarity of the V8s will always be in their favour. I had a bit of paint done and the boss of the bodyshop was just about selling tickets for people to see it! I love that everybody looks round when you start it, its got character unlike euroboxes. Mine can be a bit iffy with a T4, last time Brian just about had to do a "Basil Fawlty" and hit it with a stick to get it to speak. They're not perfect but they are fun

Well put, I have owned some great cars and I wont say the 260 is the better than any of them but it ticks so many boxes. In my view it is better than the sum of its parts.

I have been using the same MOT testing station for many years and I am sure he has seen some amazing cars but when I took my 260 in for its annual health check he asked if I could take him for a spin.

I can completely understand when people say a car is worth what they'll pay for it etc...

However, it's still a 'Rover' to 9/10 people and only really an enthusiast will buy cars like this, IMO

Having been out in a few ZT and R75 V8s' they're lovely cars and do sound fantastic, more so if they've got the Zero exhausts on (I think they're called Zero...)

But, I still stand by that this price is in fairly ok to good E60 M5 territory and excellent E39 M5 territory. Both cars offer hell of a lot more power than the ZT, better handling as well IMO and neither are really that expensive to maintain (unless it's an E60 with a dodgy gearbox, but that should have been sorted via warranty)!

This ZT 260 is a gorgeous colour; but as others have said, you're foobar'd when it comes to getting panels resprayed if anything were to happen to it

It'd be a pricy affair, or insurance job, to which they may want to try and write the car off as we all know that their 'valuations' are worthless, most of the time!

Not to make a judgement of the price asked as it's an unusual car and someone will pay what they consider it's worth. I assume as it is open to offers then the seller who is a member here I think has a price in mind that can be negotiated. We have normal comments here from the same people as always plus the ghost of doodles past. The screwed if it gets damaged is nonsense, paint is not horribly expensive now, panels are cheap and we have people of experience that are known to owners of monogram cars that can paint it. The technology did not die with MGR. You can insure with Peter best or others at agreed value and even if written off for minor damage you can get it painted. Look at the owners of current monogram cars that are getting panel work just to enhance the cars rather than damage across multiple MG cars.

What I would say as someone who has a lot to do with the 260's is the current new owners are changing, a fair few are coming from outside of 75 and ZT ownership. The norm before was someone building from a regular ZT or 75 and then buying a V8. Quite a few are coming from older MG marquees and also from completely other brands and in general are collectors. I get multiple emails from all over the world looking, all wanting the same in general, not messed standard cars.

The price point that we discuss is not really an issue for most of these. Of course the cars that you seem to always mention are quicker etc but that is not the point or the reason most buy. They buy for other reasons weather it is the quirky nature etc but the speed, 0-60 etc is never a reason that the current people buy or who approach me to find a car for them buy them. Over recent times achieved prices have risen quite a bit they are also selling for good prices at Classic Auctions.

But the thing with the m5 and this is where the comparison is moot in my view. An m5 is just another 5 series, it is another BMW. Of course the v8 is also another zt, but there simply aren't as many zts on the road as there are 5 series (not to mention BMW s). And that is why a zt in my mind would be more desirable.

Trying to compare it to an M5 is pointless to me. While you and many others love them, to me it wouldn't matter if you could get an immaculate 1 for £2000, and it was the fastest car in the world. I don't like them, I'll admit I've never driven 1, but how the car looks on the outside, and the style of the interior matters to me, and in that department I find them utterly boring and have a complete lack of character.

Personally I wouldn't buy any V8 saloon, as it's not my thing. If I want a big thirsty V8 I'd have it in something silly like a Corvette or Camaro.
