The near side has been keyed quite badly
Near side sill trim missing
Driver seat bolster damaged
Some seat foam disintegration
Drivers kick strip kicked off
Clutch rubber extremely worn
Boot dry
Plenums have some detritus in & there is some lightish moisture in there but l don't think they have been flooded
Coolant level correct
Oil nearly full but seems thin
Brake fluid low

Then the owner arrived, surprised he had left the car unlocked but had the keys, asked if l was the guy from Plymouth to which l replied no. It required a booster pack to start, first time apparently. The engine ran well, clutch felt ok & all gears selected well & moved the car. But even though l've never heard it before, there is what l reasonably presume is the death rattle.

As l pointed this out the guy got a bit defensive & said it wasn't there when he drove the car. I asked what the lowest price was, he said you tell me. I asked if £750 would get it if the expected Plymouth guy didn't have it. He said he couldn't say & then said l was a tyre-kicker anyway & wouldn't be back & even if l did return he wouldn't sell me the car. I'd already decided it wasn't for me anyway so we bade farewell.

It's very well equipped on the ICE front & l think has a lot going for it but needs further expense expending to bring it up to scratch.

I had a nice fry-up anyway & l'm glad l made the trip.

Oh, MoT'd until late September.

He also told me he'd been in the trade a long time which was confirmed for me when he said it was the Honda lump in there.
I think the car's been mostly well looked after so they may well have been done. Or maybe that's why it was chopped in. This guy bought it from the garage which took it in p/x.

Good car in normal ZT guise let alone this one with the paint and extras. If I had the time I would snap this one up as 1K is not a lot for a genuine car of this spec. I hope it goes to an enthusiast who has the time to give it some tlc

Our cars have to increase in price at some point as enthusiasts take over from the last owner before the scrapyard sort of owner. Has anybody checked the MOT history yet?

Well spotted OP

I bought it. I had agreed in the week but could not get there until this morning. Unfortunatly I need to get it back now as I could not get time to sort insurance etc in time due to work. I will need to go back in the week or weekend or arrange transport as I am being charged storage at £20 a day as parked off site. I am not 100% sure if that is right, I think it is but the phone kept ringing for the car so he might regret the price I bought it for.

Basically one owner car. MG press garage then the last owner who bought it on 26/7/04, 10 services with cambelt at 76000 (or so it says in the book but will confirm with the garage) in Oct 2014.

When I drove it, was very very quiet no rattle at all. I suspect it had been parked a while as was a trade in at a VW garage as the owner bought a new scirocco. Shame about the key mark on the side and near side trim missing but that is easily solved. I will write to the previous owner to see what happened.

The bolster damage on the drivers side is odd as it is not in the normal place but on the side of the seat. The rest are in great shape, 2 keys no lines on the IPK and all manuals even the DVD player etc.

Need to get it here as not keen on a weeks storage fee so if anyone is close that would be a help...but as far as I could tell it seems good. Was a good price for the car it is. Not sure where Plymouth came from, I assume it was lost in translation with them. I am in the midlands ...

I have some really quick photos that i will try and post but will add more when it arrives.

No rattle at all? Very odd, perhaps it just does it from cold.
It is a good car at a good price needing some TLC but l already have more than enough on my plate so it didn't take me long to decide it wasn't for me. If it had been perfect though....

Well done, it's good that it's gone to a forum member.

I still prefer the Rover's though.
