Default I think Halfords have nicked my undertray!

I took my car in for discs and pads all round a fortnight back and told them while they were at it, they might as well do an oil change.
I mentioned that the undertray had a few clips missing and it was cable-tied.
They said it wasn't a problem and they'd cable tie it back on.
So, with me working nights seven days a week, I've only just got round to having a look.
And the main full size horsehair type tray isn't there and there's a small plastic one there instead.
Is it usual to fit both? Or have they put this plastic one on instead?
I need to know the facts here before I go in with guns blazing, but I'm NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- fuming!

£500 and they couldn't even be bothered to put the tray back

Trouble is I know they're going to deny all knowledge, but it's not like I wouldn't know if it had fallen off, is it?

Any thoughts about how to go about a complaint?
Go back to the branch? or go straight to Head office?

If you're absolutely certain that the full tray was there before the car went in, I'd go back and speak nicely to the same person that you discussed the use of cable ties with - as it was only a fortnight ago, a slightly unusual conversation like that is likely to be remembered.

Assuming they can recall the discussion, then ask them to put the car on a ramp so that you can show them what's missing.

If you're lucky, the undertray might still be in the workshops somewhere, although the longer you leave it, the more chance it's been binned

Moral of this story is to always check the obvious things when you collect the car - good luck with it & hope you recover the missing tray

Trikey,
I know, but I don't have time for the hassle.
Halfords are right next door to where I work and I was able to nip in and out to sort it, it's as simple as that.

You shouldn't have to check, especially at this price!
But you're right of course.
I can't believe it, especially after having had the conversation , which I'll bet he'll deny.

This is one of the main reasons I do all my own spannering. That said, I had to let a garage change my alternator and PAS pump a couple of months ago because my car was dead and I had no time. Noticed last week that the original Rover locking wheel nut cover is missing from the FNS.
I wonder where that could have gone??????????I wonder. Not.

PS: last week, while the sun was shining, I had to remove the engine cover and refit it properly. The idiot that did the alternator job had got 1 bolt in and cross threaded the others. Thankfully he obviously couldn't be asred forcing them so they were only in a turn or 2.

Look at the hassle you've got now!

Lesson learned, I hope.

With respect Simon, that's not helpful.
If it was a cheapo place, I might understand them being slack.

As for the hassle, at least I can nip in and abuse them easily.
E-mails and social media aren't a problem either
The company I'm working for probably accounts for a very large % of this particular branch's clientele, as it's one of the biggest and best payers in the area and right on the doorstep. And I'll take advantage of it, if they don't sort this out.
