Unhappy Cruise Control Brake Switch

Dear All

First post so please be gentle! I have an '03 Rover 75 CDTi, which I've had for about three years and I love it very much! (He's actually the one that's called 'Spike'...!)

About a year ago, the cruise control failed and I've got loads of garage advice about what could be wrong, always accompanied by massive sucking in of air through teeth... "Cruise control, eh? That could be anything... not worth the cost of the car to investigate, etc..." All the usual baloney.

Anyway, having searched these excellent forums, I now believe that it could be a "small white switch" at the top of the brake pedal, which just needs to be moved into place. Armed with a screwdriver, I set out to find it. The thing is, it just doesn't seem to be there...

To help with the research, I've taken and labelled some photos in the hope that one of you brilliant people might just say, "D'oh! It's there you fool...!"

So, can anyone please point out where this mythical white switch is please? Am I just looking in the wrong place? Here comes the photography...

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ouzx63igxtzltx6/lSa45VxOo2

If anyone can help me, I'd be really grateful!

Many thanks!

James (and Spike)

Welcome Spike's owner and here you go. White switch is just above the spring in the middle of the picture. This is the one on the clutch pedal, which if you have a manual is usually the culprit, but there is one on the brake pedal as well. I've also seen them come in black.

You can't really see it and get your hand on it at the same time so have a look first and then do it by feel.

It just needs pushing down from the top.

it is above the pedal as in photo number 3.you can only do these by feel .thats is when you no where to feel for them.lol.any way right at the very top of the pedal is where they live.if lay in the footwell and look up you should be able to see the holder which is black.the switch which is tiny lives in here.feel behind the metal surround .right at the top and give it a push.it should move forward.you will be able to see it protrude from its holder.push until it makes contact with the top of the pedal

Oh heck! Well, I've had a good go. I found a BLACK switch behind the brake pedal and managed to get to it. I pushed it and it went click-click-click-click but that was all. I gave it a test drive but no joy.

Then I got defeated by the light so I'll have another look tomorrow. So do I have to check the clutch and the brake? Oh no...
