Default KV6 air filter mod

I've been considering fitting a 190 air filter/intake arrangement to my 2.5L SE manual 177ps.
Anyone bothered trying it and have they seen any performance improvement?
I would assume consumption on average would drop and I'm not making any changes to mapping etc. so would that have much/any effect, if so what?
Got the bits but not yet found the time so any comments (now don't be rude or technically arrogant about it please ) most welcome.

Not yet for me.
It's for KV6 2.0 150 as it looks.
The broad question is what filter to improve a KV6 2.5 177/180 regarding the air intake : genuine box, cone, brand, anything else.
On my part I've fitted a non restrictive ss exhaust line with a K&N filter in the original box.
Any track ?

Thanks.

I believe the 2 litre V6 airbox has a trumpet and extra fins inside the airbox that the 190 V6 doesnt

I did remove the trumpet and cut the fins out on my 160 when I had it.

I have to say..... I didn't notice any difference whatsoever.

But i did stay with a standard filter............ maybe with an expensive filter it would have done something ?????

Question 160/177/180/190 ?

Indeed difference with the 160 airbox is the trumpet which can be easily removed.

But I allowed myself to broaden the matter if I do not spoil this thread, with all kinds of boxes & filters.

Anyway to begin with is there any difference between a 190 air box as told by @rab60bit and the V6 2.5 177/180 air box?

I fitted a K&N panel filter and replaced the restrictive venturi at the end of the Shannon tube with a medium mesh cover. That made a small but noticeable difference. Of course if you increase the intake flow then you'll really only get the benefit if you similarly increase the exhaust flow. A nice Stainless Steel cat back done by a decent outfit who can remove existing silencer boxes and replace them with custom jobs is the way forward. The Rover system is pretty much free of bends and tangles, apart from that daft bend where the rear box joins on. It's a question of balancing what you're prepared to take in increased noise against performance.

The other end of the Shannon tube is different too.
The 190 had a much larger flatter moulding.
The 160/177/180 had a tube type thing

Seen this sort of question since the days we drove our Cortinas with no air filter at all, or at least a little chrome mesh jobbie.

In my view, the easy way to test is to take your filter off and give it a blast down the road. Bet you don't notice any difference - because the factory airbox and filter is not the restricting factor.

My ZTT has a K&N panel filter and 2.5" S/S LongLife custom exhaust. It was in place when I bought the car but I'm very doubtful it's added more than perhaps 1 or 2 bhp. But how often am I likely to be driving at the top of the powerband which, I believe, is over 5,000 revs. I'm not one for racing my ZTT - too many cameras and other idiots on the road. And, these days, your average German 2.0TDI is running nearer to 250bhp than 200 so wouldn't want to embarrass myself trying to beat estate agents away from the lights.

Question More breathing?

I quite agree @vacuman.
The aim isn't actually to gain a few pretty miserable bhp in the high revs which my auto hasn't got very much the use of.

If a little more air is going into the intake, the purpose might be to get accelerations just a tad more responsive, a marginally better mpg and / or a very slightly better response in the low & medium revs.
Nothing to lose trying.
I would be rather reluctant to try even a short drive without any filter lest any filth gets into the injectors.

What about drilling a hole in the air box upper part to let come in some more air from the under bonnet and help breathing a little more the engine?
Has anybody tried something similar?
