Cheap Insurance . . . . . . . .
The post office (!) is now offering car insurance (go to www.postoffice.co.uk )
I've just done an online quote and been quoted £200.01 against the £330 I'm paying at the moment (includes business use cover and protected NCB). So this may be worth a try. Admittedly I haven't examined the fine print too closely at this stage as my cover is not due for renewal for a couple of months and obviously cheapest isn't necessarily best but it may be worth investigating further. DISCLAIMER - Don't blame me if you use them and it all goes **** up |

No matter what car I have, Elephant (not their crappy bonus accelerator policy) always seem to be by far the cheapest for me!!!

Yep, the Post Office are now selling agents for insurance companies like Norwich Union. Mine is due monthend, so the letter duly arrived from NU quoting around £275, about same as last year. Anyway, rather than let the thing go through by Direct Debit (you know the drill, 'You don't have to do a thing, we'll take care of everything'), I decided to check with Confused.com.
I was interested to see the Post Office offered exactly the same cover for around £70 less than NU Direct. Checking into the PO offer showed it to be a Norwich Union deal for £20-£30 below my quote. What's more they give you a £50 cash back after the insurance goes through. Blimey, what's going on? Maybe others are doing better. Yep, for old farts like me, SAGA do even better deals. They only have clients over the age of 50, so the risks are less I suppose. Anyway, the bottom line is I've gone for the SAGA deal at £120 less than NU for more or less the same cover. Basically, if you don't keep your wits about you, your friendly insurance company will happily screw you. I've always believed car insurance is a scam and every year proves it for me. Quoted £148.00 Fully comp STD vehicle, However they also mention £50 cash back on the first annual premium, £98 for the first year is quite tempting.
Quoted £198 with the Synergy module less £50 cashback, still not too bad at £148 for the first year. Last edited by Lovel; 17th February 2008 at 20:37.. |

How did you describe the Synergy module to the insurers and what BHP increase did you quote? Looking at Rover Rons website on the 116 he is showing 40% increase in BHP. Admiral and Elephant are the same company - got cheaper price from Admiral. Handily they enable mods such as chipping to be input. 0 - 10% increase addd about £20, 11 - 25% added about £80 and 26% + would not quote on-line but the screen said they might if phones (too late to). Now thinking perhaps the X-Part 116 - 131 (CDT - CDTi) route. Any suggestions on where to look fo insurance with reasonable extra for modification. Admiral and Elephant £60 less than Saga an £160 than RIAs 'who specialise in over 50s'! Paul |
