I attempted to do this job at the weekend. Wish i hadn't. On re-fitting, one of the bolts went in diagonally and my friend tried to do it up and now the thread is f'd up. Now my only car sits with the subframe completely off and trying to work out the best way to get a new bolt on could my luck get any worse

Could you drill the thread out and use a nut and bolt instead of the captive thread?

If you do decide to do that, make sure it is replaced with a nut and bolt of equivalent hardness.

We managed to sort this in the end by drilling the bottom of the sleeve out and re-threading it from the other end using a long bolt with grooves cut into the sides. We then wlded on a new cover at the bottom. On the plus side, because my car wasn't where I usually park it, it was saved from being hit from my neighbours fence falling down.

Two hours labour and parts with the VAT £140.00 sounds like a bargain to me

My only tip would be to place a swear jar next to you when you're doing the job - when you've finished you'll be able to afford a holiday.
