Default £ 4.7million Wood 'ut !

There are 17 existing traders who will move into the new market!!!! They don't say how many can't afford to and have already packed up! What a total waste of OUR money!

No doubt, there will be a few of the "usual" fast food outlets and coffee shops to attempt to bring GY more "upmarket" if you'll pardon the pun! Should I get chips, burgers, fried chicken or a coffee in an environmentally friendly cup, before littering the surrounding area with the remnants?

There are currently 36 stalls and only 17 are moving. One "chip stall holder" has quoted a figure of £40,000 to move due to his fryers being "unsuitable" for the new building (wrong size apparently?)! You need to sell a lot of chips to make up £40,000 worth of profit! The "Pie and Pea" stall has already given up the ghost. I can appreciate that things need to be updated but at a reasonable cost. Norwich market still has the traditional rows of sellers under canvas and is lovely.

Stalls not moving:-

It seems that the pie and pea stall is to be revamped by another family member in the new building. In order to cover the new costs, I can't see the market surviving in a financially depressed area, with many local families living on minimum wages or benefits.

Our small part of town is like a ghost town due to high business rates, Most shops are only open on Friday & Saturdays to reduce the cost of the rates.

I think you will find that some of the senior executives at the council will be receiving large bonuses for their exemplary negotiating and leadership skills that led to such a low build cost relative to initial quotes!

It seems that a family member is taking over the "new" stall. I can't see the "old" prices being kept though! Yes! They are/were lovely!
