hello Simon,
I have discovered a post by stevenkyte from last March. The symptoms he describes are almost identical with mine. My Autel was also showing an O2 fault that cleared. So it seems the problem is likely to be the 10 amp F5 fuse in the engine compartment. My puzzle about the fuel pump is that I didn't hear it buzz as it primed the system but it may be that system was well primed by my successive attempts to re-start the engine. Anyway I have ordered the white clip for the fuel filter in case it is that. It should arrive before Monday and I shall return to the car on Monday. I feel like King Richard-"Ah my kingdom for a horse!" Fred |

Priming of the fuel system is not dependant upon either the camshaft or crankshaft sensors. Simon

My son told me that the car I bought off him had a new [I]crankshaft sensor fitted when it would not start. I said do you mean camshaft sensor and the answer was ‘ no it was a crankshaft sensor. No harm in trying it.

On Fred's KV6 the crankshaft sensor signal is necessary to energise the fuel pump during cranking but not during priming. This distinction is important when reaching a diagnosis on a non-starting KV6. Simon

Thank you all very much for your fantastic assistance and advice. I went back to the car today. I replaced Fuse 3 in the engine fusebox Engine started. Travelled 84 miles to home not daring to switch the engine off. Stopped at home and the engine wouldn't start again. Obviously the oxygen sensor wiring has shorted somewhere. Thank you Arctic for pointing to that in stephenkyte's post of last year. Replaced fuse again and car re-started and is now ready for the final cure on Monday. i would like to point out for the benefit of others that if this happens to you. Then remember the engine only really requires a functioning camshaft sensor for starting so once you get the engine started don't switch the engine off until you are home or in a place of safety
I noticed engine performance was not as lively as usual presumably because the camshaft sensor was out of action and also the oxygen sensor. Fred |
