Temp Gauge
Hi
I know the temperature gauge on my KV6 Auto isn't the most accurate thing ever made, but on a trip to Bristol over the weekend (350 miles there and back) I noticed an anomaly. At low speed, built up areas etc, the needle was in its normal position just under the halfway point on the gauge. On the motorway at 70 +/- the needle went down to just above the first line on the gauge. When I slowed down, was stationary in traffic etc, it crept back up to just under the halfway point again. Car drove really well both ways, checked the water level when I arrived and it was where it should be. I cant remember ever noticing this before during the time I've owned her. Only other thing of note was it clicked over 58,000 miles on the way back which is not bad for a 19 year old car!! As ever advice welcomed. Cheers |

Sounds like a stuck thermostat.

We're all familiar with stats that begin to open earlier than normal, but as a matter of personal interest, has anyone ever seen a truely stuck open thermostat? Or have a photo of one?

Temp Gauge
Just a quick update on my Rover.
Got her back today having had a new thermostat, the plastic pipework, o rings and new inlet manifold gaskets fitted. Thanks to DMGRS for the parts. When I went in I gave them a copy of the workshop manual on a USB stick and a printed copy of the bleeding procedure for the KV6. Spoke to the mechanic (who I know of old and who came from an MGR/Landrover background) and he said both had come in useful as it 'had been a while'!!! |
