My wife's new licence arrived today, a 3-day turnaround time so the backlog must have been cleared. She renewed it online, maybe that speeds things up.

Not so sure on the delays, LGV licence renewal, still waiting after 18 weeks Short staffed apparently and Covid taking its toll. Maybe the gvt should overhaul that place once and for all.

I believe doing it online is quicker (don't quote me on that)
