Trip to France & Belgium
I'm planning on taking my 75 on holiday to France and Belgium next month.
Does anyone have any recommendations for European breakdown cover. I currently use Rescue my Car and they quoted an extra £100 for Europe cover. |

I have mine through the RAC, just be careful who you choose as if the value of the car is lower than the recovery cost, they will try and pay you the bottom book price and leave your car where it broke down!!

I might be wrong but I feel I read somewhere that if you agree to a slight increase in premium they will guarantee to return your car to you.---

I have used Peter Best for a couple of years insuring my MGB GT 78 and travelling to france about 6 times,i phoned them and enquired about European Cover and was told that it is part of the normal policy, total cost was £151.00 and agreed value with European cover. Only downside was that if you did need recovery you would have to come back when the return ticket was booked in for. I.E. a 5 day trip going out 1st Jan and returning 5th Jan,car breaks down on day 2,it won't be recovered until the return crossing date the 5th Jan,so the breakdown truck uses your return ticket.hope that makes sence. |

RAC for me, I have used the service a couple of times with the Jensen and have found them very helpful and quick to respond. I had to call them out in Germany several years ago, the mechanic worked with me for 3 hours to fix the problem and even asked me to send him a text when I got home. The following day the RAC rung me to ask if the problem was fixed.
You can choose to pay either for a basic service or more, the best policy even gives you a hire car for the rest of your time abroad. As far as car value I think the better service even covers low value vehicles. A couple of things to add dont travel abroad with any potential problems, you will be travleing more miles in a week than you probably do in several months and that will be the thing that lets you down. Carry spare fuel as some places petrol stations opening times are not what we are used too and the unmanned ones need a degree in languages to sort. |
