Looks like they have a robust treatment plan in place for you going forward.

Out of interest, what is the name of the Type 2 diabetes medication you have been prescribed?
empagliflozin 10mg, also known as Jardiance and it’s available on NHS prescription.

It came as a shock when he told us. He asked if my health insurance covered me to have treatment in another country which it does. Without treatment he said I would be dead in under a year and only other treatment without the medication is to have a heart transplant in South Africa, the UK. With empagliflozin, a transplant would not be needed.

It was not the sort of thing I wanted to hear, but the new medication will change my life for the better. He thinks I have had this for quite some time and I should not panic about the diagnosis, he said it’s not curtains - and from here on everything is going to be on the up. He said the new tablets will help the heart to repair itself and prevent sudden death. I have been given hope and I know the name of my enemy, I know what I am up against and refuse to let it pull me down.
Thank you Jeff

I didn’t think I could run, but I did and managed it without getting any chest pain. Surviving the treadmill gave me a well needed boost!

With all of the results in, we met with the lead cardiologist and he gave us the diagnosis: Heart failure.

But it was not all bad news, today I start on new life saving medication which will keep me going for many years. The new medication was approved in the USA and in the UK in March this year for people in “Heart Failure with fraction reduction” and it’s considered to be life saving.

I have also been started on a new non-statin tablet (enzyme plant based) to take the bad cholesterol to below one mmol in addition to increasing the dosage of the statin I am already on.

The angiogram showed some excess fluid in the heart but the new medication will push it out. The angiogram showed some calcium deposits in the heart but no blocked blood arteries. The scan showed no lung disease and the left lung is completely clear of fluid. The cardiologist gave me the all clear to fly to the UK. He will see me again in 2 weeks to see how I am doing. He is confident the new medication is going to be life saving and it will improve the quality of my life.

Interestingly the new medication for heart failure was initially designed to treat type 2 Diabetes then research found it saved lives in patients with heart failure. Further research revealed it can be safely given to patients who do not have diabetes.

How is everyone?

Hello Phil. Blimey! you ain't half going through it lately. Hope all turns out well.

Sun is shining now but there's no heat in it, temp only just in double figures.

Salad tonight, Just made some potato salad & egg mayonnaise salad to go with it and some fresh lettuce out of the greenhouse, Pity it's not time for tomatoes yet.

The white van man turned up for the damaged package I still hadn't wrapped & still waiting for a returns label. I told them I ain't buying another lot of printer ink to use just once before it goes off & told them to send me one through the post.
