Default Can't fold down the rear seat back

Well one of them anyway. The lever moves but the back won't.

I seem to recall when this happened on the Sterling I had to pull away the leather from behind to get at the cable and pull on it with pliers to unlatch (and then replace a broken part). Is it something similar?

Very common problem I'm afraid. If you do a search here, you'll find a lot of posts on it.. in fact here's probably a "How To".

But, from memory, you have to kind of pull the upholstery round the headrest back, and poke a big screwdriver down in till you feel the catch (like a bit of horizontal coathanger wire) and press it down till it lets go

{edit}

Yes here we go. There's a bit of a knack to it... just keep trying

I'm not very good with the search on here, so thanks...

...but is the saloon mechanism the same as the tourer?

The saloon and tourer all operate the same.

Search for neilbaker86's 'how to'. It correctly attacks the problem. Never had a problem with mine since doing his remedy.

the other issue with the rear seat folding is one the bottom hinge pins, it has a very specifically shaped nylon bush which cracks.
