Although I should point out that most of us do not dress like that any more - we dress more like the Sahibs and our females more like the Mem-Sahibs.

Ronnie Barker dressed like an Indian was far more impressive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFJ3aWlyGDI

I do like the comedy in this section of the forum!
Please be a little more politically correct. BoJo has even got the body profile of Churchill.

He's not the only one. Bessie Braddock was of similar impressive stature. I met the lady once, in my youth. Impressive stature, in every way.

Interesting that some folks just can't look smart no matter what they wear or how they look. And just because someone dresses well really isn't an indication of their competence in their respective field.

My Dad, a through and through pre-war Scouser, had a mantra: 'Never trust a smiler with shiny shoes. Specially those Southern softies'. I never forgave him for not sounding the 'E' in especially.

It's funny the memories that suddenly spring. The first time I saw a chap in high heels, and I do mean stilettos, was in the famous (or maybe infamous) Cavern Club in approx. 1958. I doubt he was what might be called a gentle man. (But they were shiny).

Chris,

The lady was absolutely right. The other strong indicator is whether the man uses a fountain pen. To take a quality fountain pen out of one's jacket pocket and place it on the table next to the pad is to make a personal statement.

The size of the fountain pen also makes a statement.

Maninder.

Ravinder, I never asked but I took it to mean "clean shoes" so complied. Fountain Pens, Ah I used one for those reasons- I once told a customer mine projected tear gas-he seemed to believe me. Ray your Dad was right about "southern softies" we are a devious lot. Chris.S.

The shoes should be clean and polished. For smooth/patented like leather, the polishing should be to achieve a mirror finish.
