Had a "conversation" with an "expert" with regards to my lastest bill last week. Poor lad couldn't explain what was happening on it, he ended up saying it was because we are being transferred onto another accounting platform and that I had nothing to worry about.

I'll keep my eye on it, at present I'm showing in credit. At least I'm not reliant on some dodgy bit of kit sending inaccurate readings via an unreliable communication network, so it could be worse.

One of my neighbours calls it Pandora's Box.

Since 2013, TVs must not consume more than 0.5 Watts in standby or in off mode, but in comparison to the usage when turned on this usage is negligible (I appreciate negligible gains are what we're trying to eliminate!).

It'd be far more efficient to watch TV for an hour less each day (especially adding savings from cable/satellite boxes and routers), that'll be the next thing they're telling us to do.

It certainly is!

Consider a television and an external Freeview receiver each consuming 0.5 watts in standby. That's a total of 1.0 watt which in electricity charging terms is 0.001 kWh. Multiplying this by 24 hours gives 0.024 kWh per day or 8.76 kWh per year. At a unit rate of 33p including VAT (ref. Lancpudn's tables posted earlier), turning off this TV and Freeview receiver completely would save a whopping £2.89 per year.

As can be seen, standby consumption is not the culprit. It's heating appliances which can make useful savings.

And, of course, the fridge/freezer which are on 24/7 and operating for significant time during each 24 hour period.

I've just had my energy rebate courtesy of that very nice Mr. Sunak and equally nice Mr. Johnson.

Sadly no elections in my neck of the woods next week so I'll not be able to express my deep and heartfelt gratitude.

I thought it was a loan? Have I been mislead?

I'm searching for an easy way to either decline it or, at least, send it back.

Whatever they say, because you have to pay it back (without interest even) it is in fact 'indebted' so a loan. I don't flippin' want a loan noted against my name.

I, we, have never borrowed any money from anybody. So, my carefully planned life is despoiled by these charlatans. And I am very very angry. I hope one of them, or even two, have the nerve to knock on my door....looking for votes or anything else...

My council does not issue the funds unless applied for!

That's very impressive Ray to have got through life without having a mortgage or a credit card.
