Yes, I noticed the CTEK labs involvement, but only after i had posted.

Totally agree about potential bias, my first thought actually; however, I then thought "at least a proper working lab was used"

Never the less, probably unbiased for the other makers.
Note the last one, which didn't survive all the tests.

Regards

Mike

They're back, and reduced to £10 in my local Aldi.

Why not put a solar panel on garage roof and run the cable through the air vent?
That's what I did years ago, still going all through winter.
you need a controller but well worth it, specially if, like me you don't use the car a lot.

Still using my Davenset 3amp charger. It is now over 60 years old. Always works. Had a Aldi clever one but did not want to work after about 4 years. Don’t make um like that anymore. Please don’t tell me it is no good for today’s batteries. Original battery was on it during the winter for the life of the battery, which was 11 years old when it eventually went to the scrapyard in the sky.

I've also got a Davenset David! It's a heavy red metal box with ventilation slats. It hums when operating. Inside it has constant voltage technology and protection against reverse polarity. It's capable of 10 amps output not that I would ever need that.

One day I might look inside it.

Be careful with old car battery chargers because they used selenium rectifiers which can burn and release toxic fumes if they fail. Lots of information online.

Mine is blue enamelled, and heavy. They don’t make them like that now. Everything is lightweight. ( ThrowawaySociety). It has got two fuses. One is DC, the other is 5amp.
