Arh Dave never thought of that, i wonder which bright spark came up with doing away with passenger door key holes on cars in the first place, we always had key holes on both door years and years ago.

Neither did I until I read post 8 on this thread where OP said he changed drivers side door.
as an aside, 1955 Sunbeam only has a drivers side lock

I can get in the boot no problem... is it just a matter of pushing the seat or is it secured somehow?

Should have buttons top left and right
That's depending on the seats

If the car has buttons, then I think that you can only get to them from inside the cabin.

However, all saloons have rear seats which are fixed at the bottom, with a pin and hook mechanism (i.e a hinge)

The top fixings are in reality a "catch" on either side.

These catches are released by either the two previously mentioned buttons, or by pulling on two tapes, that are concealed behind the seat.

If your car DOES NOT have button operated fold down seats, you should be able to find the tapes from within the boot.

If it does have buttons, then I'm not sure if it has tapes as well; but there are people here who will be able to clarify that for you.

If you can get in the boot you can push down the centre armrest by pushing down the red catch at the top back of the armrest.

That will then give you enough space to push an arm through and use a pole and hook to open one of the rear doors from the inside.

Default Seat solution feasible?

Strangeangel says that the car is 'X' reg. The closest brochure I have to that is 2002 when the folding rear seat with ski hatch was standard only on the Connoisseur SE.

So it could be that his back seat won't fold at all.

Has MikeNoc's idea (post no. 6) been attempted I wonder?

Simon

To amplify what Simon say's, post 19

From the 1999 "Design your own Rover 75" option brochure:-

"One piece folding rear seat with through-loading facility" was standard on the Connoisseur SE, and optional on all other variants.

Meaning the Ski Hatch (as it became to be known) and folding rear seats, were combined into the same option.

However, ref my post 16, ALL rear seats could be folded down.
Either by design, with the buttons, or with the concealed tapes (for the seats removal)
