Default Why no O rings?

Took my Inter cooler pipe off yesterday to replace the o rings but couldn’t find any the outlets from the Inter cooler have ridged ends that imitate o rings but are part of the mounding on the Inter cooler. Did some rover 75s come without o rings? Anyone know?

A job I have yet to do. That said, the hose will need replacing on mine as clearly it has become porous.

O-rings are essential and were always factory fitted. It's arguable whether the plastic elbow was originally designed to accomodate two rings. It's a terrible design if it was. Indeed the Rimmer listing indicates a single ring was specified:

See Item 2 here: https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID001960

Anyway, the default fix is to fit two O-rings. Unfortunately, the lower one seems destined to drop out of the joint at some point.

Feel into the intercooler just in case the O-ring is inside, only use Viton O-rings to replace the old ones, in your case to repair as you have none, i did a mod i these intercooler bends sometime back now, so three rings could be used or just two with out the one on the end.

1

Always make sure the bend is fully pushed home into the intercooler.
2

I may also fit this intercooler hose mod to my car, i had one on my other tourer years ago it is an alloy one from a BMW.

Yeah I know thanks.

The reason I ask is because for a few pennies more there is a 240 piece set of orings in lidl that claim to be oil resistant and the set goes up to 50mm. Dont really want to have to pull the pipe out to measure it but if I have to....

EDIT

This set they been getting dusty on the shelf in our lidl for months.

Recieved the DMGRS supplied orings today and fitted, pretty rapid delivery many thanks on that. The Lidl sets are still in there gaining dust, maybe soon the redued sticker will arrive lets wait n see!

The old o rings i took off today where in ok condition and it was fairly clean down there so think the previous owner did them about 50K ago on his mission to cure smokey running. Still got a noise coming in above 1800rpm like a whine it comes on abaove 1800 and goes off below without fail, not ruling out bearings on an auxellery pulley itemas something on there can be squeaky till warmed up especially iif its been damp, suspect the bottom idler but you never know i suppose at 186K now the water pumps and PAS pumps among other things might start to complain? I dont use the aircon prefer to run on economy mode with windows down when possible lol so its not that.

Car defo stronger and more responsive now though after intercooler hole repair and these orings but only time will tell if the repair holds.

Has anyone heard of a turbo failing on the cdti i read its rare, maybe as a result of a hole in the intercooler that had been there for a bit to long combined with spirited driving?
