I'm sure I read somewhere on the forum years ago that some of them were or rumoured to be armoured for certain Government Ministers.

Years ago when in new rover and mg sales i sold a new rover 75 to a well known MP, a high spec regular car. Maybe they were armoured by a company after they took delivery if that's what they required.

It's mentioned in chapter 7 (body variants) of the ultimate buyers guide (a sticky in this forum)

I sat in an ex-protection Range Rover at one of the Land Rover shows and was told the easiest way to recognise an armoured version of a vehicle was to check out the glass. This is the obvious week spot in most standard vehicles and so armoured ones would have much thicker bullet proof glass.
This Range Rover I sat in had an interesting modification to its door cards as well - a neat hole about 4 inches in diameter at waist height as you sat in it. "What are those for" - I asked. The owner mimed shooting a gun through the hole. Replacing the door skins after was never a problem he said..... |

A neighbour of mine had what he claimed was an ex ministry facelift cdt auto connoisseur in midnight blue, the only extra that he could find was additional lighting in the rear interior. Certainly no armoured glass.
