Default Newbie forum question - How do I "thank" people's posts

If I get a reply that is useful on a forum, I'd generally add a message thanking the contributor.
I see stuff on here like "thanked 334 times in 287 posts" - How do I "thank" someone for their post in this way?
I expect it's obvious or documented somewhere but I couldn't work it out!
Cheers
Van

I've just stumbled on this thread after about 20 minutes of searching for the answer to this! Perhaps I missed reading about the post limit when I signed up.
