Private Plate
Thinking of getting a private plate for my ZT, that I’ve seen for sale.
It’s MG55ROV, but not sure if it’s overpriced? Has anyone else on here got one? If so what are your thoughts on £1200? |

I have a plate with my initials on it, R70SPG.
I like the one you're looking at but personally wouldn't pay that price. That said if you want it, can afford it then go for it. |

If you look on the genuine DVLA website, you will find numerous plates that end in ROV, many of them for £250.00.
This price includes the £80.00 transfer fee and VAT. I have just bought LE03 ROV, to go with RO51ROV bought 2 yrs ago. Both cost the same £250.00. RO51 as the car is gold. LE03, as i was an engineer on one of the (now highly respected) LEO 111 computers. Regards Mike

Saw a plate that actually spelt my surname in full - only problem is it is a 19 plate so I would need to buy a new car.

A personal plate is only worth what someone will pay for it. The DVLA have many for sale at £80 inclusive. I think plates with car related rather than initials seem to be worth more, and the one you have mentioned will only suit cars from a certain era, which will get less over time. I had SE04 ROV on my 75 Contemporary SE for some time, but it is on retention as I now have R25 VER. May retain it or sell - I have about 8 years left to decide.

We have private plates but not related to the cars or owners (I claim).
KY51 RAT on the XF, KY55 RAT on the Twintop, and AN61 RAT purchased for my next car. I missed out on WU51 RAT which would have been really nice on an XF in Stratus Grey. They all cost £250 each from DVLA.

Personalised Plate. Cost Justified?
Quote:
In 2010 I bought a Tourer, registered in 2005, which had had one previous owner, with a plate that was personal to him. I hated the 55 plate it had subsequently been given when he sold it (see picture below) and - in 2012 - checked the DVLA website to see if they had anything suitable, that I liked better. As well as SE55 ROV, which I bought for £250, I'm pretty sure they had MG55 ROV for sale at £800. Although the latter has a much bigger appeal/market, at the time I couldn't justify the expenditure. Whoever has it now obviously thinks it's worth 50% more than it was 10 years ago. Not a bad investment, if they get it.
