Default Clutch gone...help please

Morning all

I'm a new member of the group and a relatively new 75 owner.

I was recovered home by the RAC this week after the clutch in my 2005 75 cdti failed.

I know for certain that the master cylinder is broken (round piece of plastic snapped).
I'm after some advice please.

I am a complete newbie to all of this so please bear with me.

How do I know if my clutch also needs replacing?

When I was driving the clutch pedal was heavy (always has been since owned the car - 3 months) and the bite was at about 1cm travel when releasing the pedal.

Does this model have a dual mass flywheel? I don't know what this means other than its part of the clutch. Dont laugh...can I buy a clutch kit and not replace the dmf?

Where is the best place to buy parts? And what would you expect to pay for labour?

yes the car has a DMF, do not change it for a solid one. From threads I have seen the DMF do not normally go wrong but they can do. You can replace the clutch and not the DMF.
DMGRS is a good place to get a kit from.
Labour for a clutch change, perhaps anything from £450.

Perhaps worth just changing the master, bleeding the system and going from there. I am sure others will be along to also give advice.

Heavy clutch could be old fluid?

Personally I would not fit or have fitted anything other than Luk.

On another recent thread trikey mentioned that he has only had one failure with Luk fitted to the 75/ZT in 15 years. He fitted all Luk in mine and Sandy Motors did so in our previous CDT many years ago. They've been perfectly reliable and light in operation. We also put in a new guide tube, seal etc.

like others say... before getting all the clutch parts test a new master cylinder first, you might find the clutch has more life (giving you a chance to save money). also helps if your going to do the work yourself get yourself alittle mirrior on a stick with alittle light (machine mart has a nice 1) and a syringe with a tube (help you fill up the master cylinder with fluid)

To be fair, only one person made that comment. trikey's response to it was 'I still prefer Luk stuff, only one failure in over 15 years of using them.'
