Default Car died after short stop

Hi guys, I think I'll need help with this one. Something that has never occurred to me: the car just died inexplicably! I had just finished a 90km journey and was about to park. I needed to wait for a gate to be opened, something like 2min so I figured I'd switch the car off.
I then went on to turn it on again - waited for the glowplug light to estinguish, tried to start and... I heard a small beep and then everything just died. I tried again and again, but it hasn't given signs of life!

Any idea on what could it be? I am mindblown to say the least

Is it cranking over or just dead, any click etc or lights flashing ? if not it could be the starter motor, clean the spade end on the starter.

Thanks for the reply! Yesterday it was just dead, not even the lights were working, nothing at all. Seemed like there was no battery in the car.

I woke up this morning and walked out to the car expecting the worst... to my surprise, the car was working perfectly. Everything had reset - trip odometer and so. Tried to start her up and it did start, twice. If I was baffled before, now I'm just speechless

The clock is 1.30h behind. Fuses are ok, nothing blown. I'll check the battery voltage, could it be the battery on its way out?

Hi Francesco,

The evidence suggests nothing more than an intermittent battery disconnection. This could either be at the battery clamps or at the body attachment of the negative terminal cable.

Caution: If you have sat. nav. wait for the red LED on the disc drive to extinguish before disconnecting battery terminals.

Initially, I'd suggest loosening the battery clamps, lifting them off and cleaning the posts. Check the expansion gap in the clamps and if it is almost closed, open it carefully using the blade of a stout screwdriver. Refit the positive clamp first gently knocking it home onto the tapered battery post (this is the operation which, if ignored, results in a loose and unreliable fitting). Now tighten the clamp nut and bolt just enough to prevent rotation by hand. Do not over-tighten; there's no load on the clamp! Repeat for the negative side.

Hopefully that will solve your problem.

Simon

Checked the battery voltage, everything is fine. I did what I could to the battery clamps and the negative terminal - cleaned and refitted.

Working fine right now, will update if needed!

Happened to me once, it was the battery terminals 😎
