Default Care Homes

Sorry for the disinterment of the subject. New facts recently coming back to possibly haunt some of those who were instrumental in the control and/or manipulation of recent events (and ongoing) which should, but more than likely won’t, incur prosecution. See below clipped post (but not out of context) from a former member:

this individual has several Covid Tests as he is so ill he has been admitted to hospital “7 times in the last 3 months”. Each time the Covid Test was apparently negative.

Could I ask for confirmation that the very last one was negative?

Are you seriously suggesting that all the medics are bending the rules in some weird conspiracy with world politicians to fool us all
?

Yesterday in the high court two senior high court judges found that the government’s ruling that hospital patients should be discharged to care homes without Covid testing was unlawful. They found that it was irrational that they were not allowed to isolate and be tested for the disease prior to transferring.
More than 20,000 elderly and vulnerable care home patients died from Covid in the first wave and relatives could now consider suing the government. The minister in post at the time is now assumed to be beyond judicial reach. Convenient, that.

More than £140,000 had to be raised to mount the case, lawyers getting paid first of course.

All those medics were tossed to the wolves and then subjected to serious threats of possible disciplinary action. Is there anybody still willing to take anything the government put out as being worth trusting your life to?

Returning the care home residents to their respective homes was part of the pandemic flu plan Ray.

I'm not saying it was right, just that it was part of the plan at the time.

Yes of course Gary, that's the point. It was a plan from the start.
Witty and Vallance, The Twin Prophets of Doom stoked the fear that threw caution to the wind.

So glad I have not been in a position to have to make decisions which may or may not have been wrong for some people.

Me too. Whatever they did, however they approached it, their decisions where going to have consequences. More serious for some than others.

No love for our politicians of any colour, but they had a thankless task with that.

Default 13 times more likely to die in UK than a German care home.

But . . . "About 3,500 people died in care homes in Germany compared with more than 16,000 in the UK, despite Germany having a care home population twice as large. Its test-and-trace system and 14-day quarantine for people leaving hospital have been credited with protecting homes from outbreaks."

From the Grauniad here.

Irrespective of what the conditions of transfer were, the Care Homes themselves had a responsibility to have their own PPE and Procedures and not expect to have it to be provided with the necessary by others. Afterall they are paid to do a job and frankly they did not in all cases.

Not just the politicians and health service at fault as claimed.

Back in the day I attended an Emergency Planning seminar with the delegates from the county's numerous care homes. The idea was for them to take responsibility for any future situation that may impact on their business. When the presentations were finished the attendees were invited to ask questions. All they could say was how their businesses were affected at the time by the council taking all the good carers as they were able to provide better employment terms and conditions. They really weren't interested in a hypothetical situation with uncertain consequences on their business.

At the break I looked out at the carpark. Full of late model Mercs, Bmers, Range Rovers, etc, etc.

Emergency planning, in any environment, is a complicated and expensive process. It's no wonder we don't give it the respect we should. Sadly.

Hopefully, going forward, the narrow minded and myopic will come to their senses and learn something from this mess.
