Default Pollen Filter

I had a problem the other week, when returning from POL, whereby I was beginning to feel drowsy. I thought that I was getting exhaust fumes into the passenger compartment.

Although it seems a bit fumey under the bonnet, I haven't been able to detect any obvious leaks.

Anyway, I decided to check the plenum drains, as the car is new to me, and also have a look at the pollen filter while I was in there.

I eventually managed to wrestle the pollen filter out and I have a horrible feeling that it has NEVER been changed. The car has been serviced by the same indy garage since new.

This is what I found...

Is this why I was feeling drowsy, I wonder? Lack of oxygen?

For some reason garages seem to forget the cabin filter when doing a service. The way I look at it, it's probably the most important filter!

Mine was exactly the same when I got my ZT. Apparently serviced regularly by a 'specialist'. I then checked the air filter and the PCV. Air filter was equally as choked up and the PCV was just a solid black mass. So much for regular specialist servicing. Who knows what else they 'serviced' in the same way. I've a feeling I'll keep on finding out!

That is horrendous to say the least, can't trust anyone to do a job well today, always ask to see the parts removed from your vehicle when getting a garage to 'service' your car.

Drowsiness is to do with the inhalation of something noxious, not lack of oxygen, that is dizziness.
