Default Auto Transmission problem.

2001 Rover 75 Club. Automatic.

Gear change up and down has been very smooth, then the car started changing into different gears for no apparent reason. It was suggested to me that it was going into limp mode. On a couple of occasions after driving ten or so kilometers, it did right itself. However now the problem has got worse, thumping on both up and down change. Very severe when gently applying the brakes.
Can anyone shed any light on this problem for me.

I think you need to top the box up with fluid..

First sign of lack of oil in the auto gear box on all my old jags was half hearted ad lib gear changes.. Hopefully a bit of oil fluid will sort it.
