Exclamation ZTT Turbo Engine - Liners

Hi,

Haven't posted/visited in a year or so as I had another HGF on my ZT (slight misfire on startup coupled with random magical loss of oil) so parked the car on the drive as it was in need of other TLC & "investment". Fast forward 10 months and following new door locks, exhaust brackets, trim repairs, electric work I finally get someone who knows what he's doing to look at the Cylinder head we find the liners have dropped. Quite a bit as well.

Helpful chap from mg-rover mobile mechanics also said that a piston ring may be failing as well. Fair play to him wouldn't fit a new gasket/head as he said it wouldn't last a week.

So I guess this is a plea for ideas/offers of cheap engines/wisdom or just some inspiration to persevere. I've checked out ebay for engines but most listing appear to be removed from scrap and will likely be sold as 'running' even when they aren't.

Please ignore if this is the tenth plea for a turbo engine/advice in the last 24hrs I can only imagine the quantities.

Thanks
Ryan

If you are a skilled DIY, it is possible to raise the liners with shims available from Brown & Gammons. This require the sump to be dropped, and liner/pistons to be pulled out of the block. I have done this twice with great success. Much info in my old project threads, but the pics is missing now:

Try here on DMGRS - full set of pistons, liners and rings for a 1.8 turbo - £259.99

https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/collections/...00790-rover-mg

Would also get a Temp coolant gauge fitted - it took only 60 mins to fit and certainly gives you control over the engine temp to avoid HGF caused by overheating.
