Default rear light seals

I feel sure that this has probably been covered before, but yesterday I changed my rear light seals to try to solve a water leak in the boot. When I took the old seals off, they both appeared to have been cut near the outer corners. It appears not to be random (ie same place on each side) and on closer inspection does seem to be cut (ie not ripped).

So obviously not a perfect seal, and a contributory factor to my leak.

Is it usual to see the seals cut like this?

The new ones (from Jezzer1 on here - thank you) do not have this cut.

[ Incidentally, I also sealed the inside of the chrome waist trims, and so far, with some recent rain and a hosepipe test, it all seems to be dry now. Next job is to replace the hardboard boot floor (which had become soggy) with new plywood. ]
