The pressure readings for the 1.8 turbo are 4 bar to 4.2 bar at a 1000 RPM and doesn't differentiate between a hot or cold engine , That is the only figure I can find mentioned for that engine
Was your 30 psi (2 bar ) taken at 1000 RPM or at idle as would suggest with a warm engine it may well drop to around there at idle . ? Does the oil pressure keep dropping down lower than 30 psi (eg In the time it has been taking for you oil light to illuminate) or is it holding 30 psi as the oil pressure switch is set at less than 10 psi (0.2 to 0.6 bar) and unless faulty wouldn't illuminate at 30 psi If your oil pressure is falling lower , obviously your back to checking the strainer and the oil pump Last edited by TourerSteve; 3rd March 2022 at 12:10.. |

So as i was sitting there reading it, the pressure dropped to just under 2 bar at 1000rpm However the light hasn't come back on again, and its running fine. I'm wondering if it was a dodgy sensor, I'll keep an eye and if it comes back on I'll recheck things - for clarification i have replaced the sensor now Thank you for all the information you've given me! You've been fantastic

RAVE says a minimum of 1.0 bar at idle (defined as 750 ± 50 rpm) and 3.0 bar at 3,000 rpm. Simon

My 1.8 Turbo had the oil light after 15 minute issue as well, mine was dropped liners combined with a MLS gasket.
Binned the engine as I knew it towed a caravan measured different heights over the liners. If the issue comes back pull the plugs and look to see if any of them are burning oil, if the liner has dropped it will lose oil pressure but it will also burn a lot of oil. Fingers crossed for you its just the sensor

I agree Andy. I used bar in my reply to oruba only because he lives in Turkey and it would probably save him a conversion calculation. Now I'll Simon
