China again - & Roewe
My favourite topic right now.
Am reading a book called 'China shakes the world' by James Kynge. Anyone read it? For those of us who are interested in the Roewe 750 ( and I am), it's a good factual read. The relationship to the forum is evident as we have been discussing the new model. I think most of us have concerns over likely build quality. My own take on that is quite simply that the rise of the Chinese economy is such becasue of their desire to give the world what the world wants. If we demand a certain quality, we'll be given it. Time will tell, but I am an optimist over this one and I really do see my next motor car being a 750. Be interesting to hear revised views on this now that we have had time to think on it some more. |

Build quality is something we will have to wait and see about - but when you consider the amount of products that are shipped here from China you would be quite surprised to see some of the very high levels they reach. The new car could quite possibly be very well made indeed. The interior, judging from the pictures anyway, does seem to be well done for one.

If it does I'll take a look, If I took the plunge I'd like to rebadge it as a Rover though. The name Roewe and the badge just doesn't do it for me. But the design of that interior, fantastic, does anyone else think that the door cards look rather BMWish?

As a non-fan of the big BM, I really hate to agree with you.
Thankfully that and the slight nod to the rear of a 6-series of the boot, is all that looks BMish. Overall the interior is the best thing; like a 75 but up-to-date ....just as it should be. |

Yeah I dislike the bmw look, but at least it's limited, the dash is fantastic,

Personally I don't like the new interior at all. It's certainly more up to date, which is a good thing, but it is so common and ubiquitous - could be from any BMW, Lexus, etc. The old interior was totally unlike anything else, and was full of character, whereas the revamp seems dull and predictable. And the expanse of plastic on the dash doesn't compare to burr walnut....

I'll keep my fingers crossed that they don't think only the looks are important, and that it used to be an 'english' car, so must be bought to go with the Burberry scarf. |

If the Chinese/far east market is so large, do you think they will go through all the EU type approval, homologation, emissions, Ncap testing and whatever else is needed before they can sell it in the EU?
