There is no question he was in the wrong, but I don't think he is a paedophile. He got 6 years because he is in the public eye and I believe they wanted to make an example of. Fair enough. But where is the consistency? A young girl fairly local to me was abducted and raped over a three day period and the guy got four years.....It's not even in the same league, yet Johnson got a bigger sentence then an actual paedophile and rapist. The two cases don't even compare.

But...Johnson admitted he knew she was 15. Up here that is satutory rape. There is no excuse at all for a senior professional footballer behaving like he did. Or any need.

Yes I certainly agree with you.
The problem is a footballer is someone younger people look up to and because of that and he is the public eye will get a stiffer sentence!
The thing is though, the local case you've quoted it can well be argued that the person involved should be jailed for a much longer time.
It's a difficult thing to answer looking at both cases.

He was also found with animal porn which just turns my stomach. Prison is far too good for scum like that, and if I was his ex, I'd have him no where near the child ever again.

No doubt about it he deserved the sentence - I think the very valid point raised is why someone who has abused kids far younger and shown violence got a lesser sentence?

The judge said it was because he pleaded not guilty.

So are sentencing guidelines such that if you attack a 12 year old with violence and plead guilty you get less of a sentence than if you have sex with a 15 year old and plead not guilty to the rape element.

Not saying ANYTHING in his defence - just having difficulty given the fact that if he had kept it in his trousers for less than a further year there would possibly have been no offence.

Can I just remind people to watch what they post in here please, it's an emotive subject and I'd rather the thread stayed open to allow people to air their views as long as they are within the bounds of decency

Personally I think when one partner is over the age of 21 then the age of consent should be 18. Only if both partners are under 21 then fine at 16. Far too many preying adults........any grown up wanting to court even a 16 or 17yo is seriously strange.
