Nice result, it’s not a bad little job to do either. I need to do it in my V reg as it’s a cold runner as well

A longish hill for the last part saw the temperature rise fairly quickly, followed by a drop to 83 on the downhill side.
It was 4 deg c outside so FBH kicked in when I started.
Happy with that.

HNY David.
It was an 89 deg stat, purchased from autodoc.
A wahler 3029.89. Compared to others, it’s not cheap at about £20, but I like it’s construction for insertion into the top hose, as it has a smoother body outer diameter.
I can take a photo of it (another spare I have) tomorrow if you like.
It does have a bleed hole in it, which a lot would consider not a good idea.
I placed it in the hose, making sure the bleed hole was at the top of the pipe.
Also, just so you know, my test results noted above were with a FBH operating.
If I get a chance tomorrow, I might do a comparative run with FBH isolated.

Thanks for that Sean. I ordered a thermostat that was supposed to be 88deg, but when it came, it is marked 82 Deg. That is 6 Deg less than the original one. I was going to send it back, but thought I will experiment with it to see how it performs in the diesel. It is one for the Peugeot super 5. It was only £8.11 free postage, so not much to experiment and loose with if it is no good. It is very similar looking to your thermostat in its construction. Will post on here when I have fitted it. The original thermostat is still in place, but I am pretty sure it is stuck partly open, because the temperature only goes up to around 78/80 degrees.

Well Connie failed her MOT last week. I just look a chance that the list wouldn't be too bad as I had to put her in with a defective n/s headlamp after she was bumped before Christmas The lady who hit me is paying for the damage to the bumper and wing so it will down to the bodyshop to fix the headlamp. It appears that something may have been disconnected in the lamp as the bulb holder rocks up and down but is otherwise still attached.

The other failure items are both front brake pipes corroded to excess , so I have managed to replace them over a couple of nights this week which wasn't an easy job in the rain on dark nights. The bleed nipples were seized but I managed to carefully bleed them thought the pipe unions and have a nice solid pedal.

Car dropped off at the bodyshop for repair and the MOT garage is next door so hoping they can work together and have her sorted by the weekend >

Started the blue one after a week parked up, burst into life in seconds, sorted the airbag light out (again), identified which of the parking sensors has failed and checked my tyre pressures.

On the bosses car I bought her 2 new tyres, and changed the auto gear lever which was a doddle to swap.

The tourer decided she wanted some attention yesterday The n/s handbrake decided to stick so I took a chance to free the shoes by pulling backwards and forwards to free them off . It made some scraping sounds at first but then seemed okay so we went out for a run and it started making the occasional noise but she got us home. I went out last night and found she had crept down the drive and had her nose pressed against the garage door !

Today after work, I stripped the brake and the hand brake linings had come off!
I had some spare TRW shoes in the garage and fitted them after accidently putting one on upside down in the dark with a torch in my mouth ,I realised my error.

A road test seemed good but getting home I think I may be about to suffer an ABS low speed kick from the pedal

Job for another day I think as I'm wrecked after working on the two of them outside in the cold and rain all week.

Had a very quick cleanout of the X3, and found a genuine BMW open ended spanner. (12mm and 13mm)

Which was nice.
