Managed it, pretty much as i intended. Not much fun though..
Having got it apart (the main cable had pulled through), I heated and reformed the holder, turned the block upside down and cut a pair of notches for a cable tie to stop it opening up again. I thought id take the mechanisms off - fat chance, without taking the whole front off. Job for the summer, lots of spray cleaner and grease for now. The good news, if it is, is that the coolant level is good, tested the heater again, it's not working as it should, more warm than hot. I've noticed, or imagined the cooling fan running more often than it used too, so i may stillhave an issue. Will just keep an eye on it. |

If you are a bit worried they might seize they can be done without taking the front end off.
