Bumped into an old workmate in Tescos car park and his reaction was "You've gone up in the world haven't you!"

I've had...

"How long you been driving a Jaguar?"

"What a beautiful car - what model Jag is it?"

"Nice car..... V6 or a V8?"

"What a lovely car... How could Rover have failed with a car like this?"

"I don't remember Jaguar producing a car like this!"

to

"I have got to get me one of these" (from a 14yr old nephew! That was after two minutes of silence from him when he first sat in the car - a rare thing for him - silence that is!)

On a seperate note - what is the fascination with Jaguar?

From an Audi A4 driver why did you buy a Rover its an MG
Answer the same reason you bough a Passat.

From a Hyundai V6 driver when you going to get a fast car.
The Hyundai 2.7 model is slower and less economical than the MG V6

When I bought my 75, I had comments about "moving up in the world", and a friend of mine bought me a cigar "to go with your new car".

I bought mine a few weeks before MGR went belly-up. The most common joke then, amongst many, was the "oh, you got the P75 then, unlike the Rover workers, who got the P45......".

Now, almost five years on, the insults have long since faded away, and my beauty is admired wherever she goes, despite often being mistaken for a Jaguar!

Usually goes like this....

Them - See you got an old mans rover.

Me - Its an MG actually.

Them - Ah sure its only a badge name....

Me - Complete structural re-engineering by MG and a body restyle by the man that did the McLarean F1....

Them - Ow really?

Me - Yeah, and half of the car is BMW bits, suspension and so on....

Them - Still an old mans car. Head gasket gone on it?

Me - No, never will.

Them - Whys that then?

Me - My engine was redesigned, wont ever have any of those problems.

Them - What engines that?

Me - V6, 24V quad cam.

Them - Ow right, must be slow and thirsty in that big old thing.

Me - Nope, 36 mpg on the motorway and will keep up with a Type R happily.

(Usually at this point they have walked around it and are inside it sitting in it)

Them - Nice in here actually......

Me - Lets go for a drive then.

And by that point I tell them own much it costs to own one, how they qualify as future classic on insurance as an MG and how much I payed for mine. Everyone who's slatted it, once they have had a drive or been a passenger has had a totally different opinion. Everytime.
