I like private plates as a bit of individuallity. It also makes you instantly recognisable to friends and family. In theory. I've seen my dad driving past an me flashing the lights like mad and he's gone past, totally oblivious.

Actually, as an aside, on Friday night I picked him up in my father in law's Beemer (they're on holiday and I like to put a little mileage on it for him!) to come to us for dinner. He remarked on the lights on the door handles when I opened the locks. I thought nothing of it really. It was when we drew up at my house and he said "oh dear, look at that, someone has your space" that I started to wonder. I said "yes, that's me, you're in Jim's car" and he looked totally bewildered................

Anyway, I'm waiting for COL 1N to come up for sale so that I can re-mortgage and buy that one!!!!!! Well, maybe.

I reckon we ALL have a private plate - at least they're all unique.

My favourites are still 2 BE and NOT 2B, on 2 rather nice cars I saw in a carport at a property on Chelsea embankment.

Too bad we can't have private plates in France, I would have gone for one if i had the chance. One nice trick about my car plates: the 3 letters DST which is the equivalent of MI5 in the UK .

Never had one, never wanted one. Years ago, (mid 70s) just out of college, I drove a Moggy Minor Convertible. A friend of a friend offered me another which had failed the MOT for £30 for spares. My car was only worth £50. "Thought you'd be interested because of the 'plate - BOB 414". Not me I said. A few years later I saw the plate for sale for £2k.
