Default 5 minute winter maintenance

Noticed my offside rear door was difficult to open from the outside.

5 minutes of pumping WD40 into each door handle mechanism has freed all of them up and all 4 doors work fine including the dodgy one.

With such bad weather, heavy rain and all sorts for dirty spray on our cars it makes sense to oil, grease or spray your moving bits from time to time

Small amount of penetrating oil is fine on the handles and hinges. Don't put any in the door lock mechanisms, WD-40 will break down the lithium grease these are packed with and will attract moisture. Then they fail.

Mine has just come back from a major service and I did notice that the moving parts on the doors were well greased

Will silicone spray do the same?
What would you recommend for locks.

Edit: Lithium grease spray I would guess
Only just found out about it.

A very good Mechanic I know insists Carbeurettor Cleaner is the best stuff to use on all locks and ignition barrels.I use in on mine a few times a year and never have any trouble with stiff locks etc.

Good point to make. When the car was serviced in December, he went over the whole car spraying grease in all the places that were required.
