Not a 75 though...
have you read the last paragraph in the description £2000 for cambelt change inc service makes a 75 v6 belt change look a bargain

Performance-wise is 0-60 that important to you? Are you really going to floor that XF and get that 6-8 seconds time more often than not? I doubt it, you'll probably be using somewhere around what you'd get out of a 190 without even using full throttle on the 190. Go trade your 2.0 v6 for a a 190 and pocket the £9000 saved to spend not only on fuel and servicing but on tarting it up, drive it like it's meant to be driven (yes rev it!). You could always have a 'performance evaluation reset' by going and driving any normal (no hot hatches!) 1.4 for a month....

Of course if you just fancy having a Jag and have £10,000 to spend for a more 'modern' car and fancy the XF then buy it - the heart wants what the heart wants after all. Myself I quite like the XFs and would have one if they came down to the level of a top price 75/ZT (excluding v8 and dealers with more hope than sense) - But I'd prefer the XKR
Ah, a superb answer and one I was looking for that counters the "go down the XF road".

The truth is, I don't want massive performance, more some that means I don't have to hit kickdown when I'm entering the M6 at J5, to try and get in front of Artics, that simply will not slow to let you on, at 6.30 am!

I'm a massive fan of grunt, which is why I was considering a diesel, but point noted, along with Astraeus'.

I'll look into the XK, as the XF does nothing for me when I look at it.

I drive my sons XF 3.0 D from time to time, my R75 1.8T has an 0-60 time of 9.2 secs, the XF with twin turbo does it much, much quicker ..... but it has a DPF that regularly needs clearing (constant 40+ mph for circa 15/20 miles to burn off deposits) but at 80K region they need changing.

Only last week end a new DPF (80grm ash) front disks & pads + oil & filters cost £960.00 with labour, and that's mates rates, a Jaguar dealership could be easily double that figure.

Used over similar mileages they both average around 25/30mpg around town with some longer trips, one diesel the other petrol, and which do I prefer to drive? My own Rover 75 1.8T Tourer, better vision and I suppose more familiar after 5+ faithful years service.

A bit more grunt, with similar fuel consumption?
Have you considered a 1.8T with all the goodies?

Especially the one from Z&F tuning.204 bhp + lightweight engine = A lively barge.Vroom tishhh

Sadly no Jaguar post 2006 actually looks like a Jaguar, which is why I run 9 Jags and 1 Daimler, the newest of which is 2004. That said, I still love my 75s and ZTs and shall continue to campaign them. Modern jags may be "cheap", but are expensive to service and exorbitant if they go wrong, which they do! If you can only run one car, by all means go for a Jag, but do not be seduced by the supposed economy of the newer one. My 4 litre V8 twin supercharged Daimler does 0-60 in 5.3 seconds, yet returns 28mpg on a run. Every extra includes heated reclining rear seats, and yet I picked it up for pennies 3 months ago. At a third of what you thinking of spending, why not live a little?!

I agree when you say that our cars maybe not be cheap to run but one thing is certain is that they are not expensive to buy.

I must admit I do like the XF but I wouldn't buy one, for me the best Jaguar's were the XJ's.

You say you are not happy with your 2 litre Rover 75?

Have you considered either of the diesel options, the Rover 75 diesel or the MG ZT version?

I would go for the Jaguar. More modern and higher quality luxury brand. Been looking at Jaguar myself. Lovely cars. S-Types are stunning. XF is beautiful.

Buy an XF and take it to Lates600 in Rugby for service and repair. He has one and so it's a no brainer really! Good luck with your search!

I doubt if the Jaguar sported it's makers name 'Tata' anybody would want one

But to be fair, I don't understand the gripes about our MG/Rover cars.
Why would anyone buy one and expect modern day performance or equipment.

The whole point of owning a Rover 75 for me is that I have a car I love. That retro styling and gliding ride is just what I want. I know the performance, or lack of, and fuel consumption. I know about Belts, thermostats, inlet manifolds, suspension etc. , as I looked into all that before buying. As I would have if buying a Ford Fiesta.

Truth is we all buy what we want and what makes us happy. Costs don't really come into it as a £10k car today will in 5 years shed money like it's going out of fashion and a ZT/75 will actually cost less over the same period.
