Simon, There was a jet of petrol shot out of the filter top but as to if it's pressurised I don't know as I don't want to spray more petrol into the cabin. I removed the fuel pipe at the inlet manifold and a jet of petrol shot out when I turned on the ignition. Had some fault codes including P1232 generic low speed fuel pump primary circuit failure which I cleared and hasn't come back.

It's not uncommon for the filter cap seal (o-ring) to leak after the module has slackened off and been re-tightened. After more than fifteen years under compression, it's likely the rubber has hardened / flattened. You'll never know unless this is renewed and the orange clip is fitted. Most 1.8T owners went though this years ago, but there's clearly some that have hung on. So, eliminate FFS and go from there.

Yes the filter element will be black, but don't worry about that. They get that way within the first year, but will be perfectly functional, as the gush of fuel from the injector supply pipe confirms. Renew it if you like, but it's not necessary. The filter element is a lifetime fit.

TC did you ever find out the size of the large o ring? Iv'e been looking on google and I find posts of yours going back many years but no mention of the size. On one you said Terry provided the size but it wasn't mentioned in the thread unfortunately.
